Artist’s Description:
The site of this installation has a particular spirit. The piece and the corkscrew willow curl, fold and move in tandem with every soft breeze and stand strong during rain storms. Gardens and gates are for whom exactly? Acts as a portal and invitation to enter another world that acts as an opportunity for reflection. However, it is not without contradictions. The work considers the borders and barriers that enclose natural sites not for preservation but perhaps limiting access for certain peoples. The work is asking questions during a time when existing disparities are exposed. Who is able to participate in pleasure and leisure within nature?  What are the places that are recognized as nature and who occupies them? Who is purposely left out of experiencing the blessings of protected lands because of lack of access?
