 Artist’s Description:
Responding to the length of time we have been in COVID lockdown mode in New York --and, if your life is anything like mine, spending countless zombie hours on Zoom --I wanted my project for Art Offscreen to have a physical and social aspect, both in the making as well as the random street participation that might occur as my apartment in Brooklyn is located on the ground floor and street facing.

My friend Allison Olly and I recovered an old, gnarly bench that had been sitting out on my porch since god-knows-when. We used an assortment of tapes including Painter’s tape, Gaffer tape and stuff from the Dollar Store and adapted one of my Tantric drawings into a design for the bench, transforming it over the course of an afternoon into an object of beauty for the everyday passerby.

I wanted this to be a lighthearted encounter with space and people. The title “waiting for you” is both playful and somber, alluding to the waiting we have all been doing in order to get back to our normal lives. But even while doomsday scenarios hover around us, we have also taken the time to create new forms of community and care with the people who matter.

The people we love are worth waiting for <3
